Frequently Asked Pricing Questions
Answers to the most popular questions we get about costs for DBS Checks and our Platform
How much does a DBS Check cost?
When you apply for a DBS check through an Umbrella Body, the total cost has two parts.
The first is the fixed fee from the Disclosure and Barring Service. This charge stays the same no matter how many applications you submit. The DBS fee is £21.50 for a Standard Check and £49.50 for an Enhanced Check, including options with the Adults’ and/or Children’s Barred Lists.
The second is the admin fee from the Umbrella Body for processing the application. This varies depending on the number of checks. At DBS.care, we serve only Health and Social Care, and our admin fees start at just £3.00 per application.
My employees pay for their DBS, can you charge them directly?
At DBS.care, we understand that managing costs in Health and Social Care can be challenging. That’s why we offer a unique feature that allows you to allocate the invoice directly to the applicant. As soon as you set this option, the applicant receives a notification and logs into their own portal to make payment securely.
This approach saves time and reduces admin for busy Health and Social Care teams. You no longer need to cover the fee upfront or spend time chasing repayment. Instead, the responsibility sits with the applicant, while your organisation benefits from a smooth, efficient, and transparent DBS check process.
Do Employers or Employees pay for DBS Checks?
There are no rules on who must pay for DBS checks in employment. Each Health and Social Care employer decides whether to cover the cost or ask the applicant to pay.
DBS.care includes a feature that allows you to assign the cost directly to the applicant. They log into their own portal and pay securely. This removes the need for employers to cover the fee upfront and later reclaim the expense.
Can I buy credits?
DBS.care also offers a convenient pre-pay credit feature. This option is especially useful for Health and Social Care teams where staff need to process DBS checks but do not have access to company finance systems.
By using pre-paid credits, managers can give team members the ability to send off DBS applications quickly and securely without needing to involve finance at every stage. This reduces bottlenecks, speeds up recruitment, and ensures safer hiring practices across busy care settings.
Does VAT Apply to a DBS Check?
The DBS base fee is VAT exempt, so no VAT applies to this part of the cost.
However, the admin fee charged by Umbrella Bodies, including DBS.care, is subject to VAT.
Your invoice clearly separates these two fees and shows the VAT applied. This makes the breakdown simple to understand.
Can I get a bulk discount?
The DBS sets the base fee for checks. It is £21.50 for a Standard DBS Check and £49.50 for an Enhanced DBS Check. These prices are fixed, with no discounts available, even for very high volumes.
At DBS.care, the admin fee works differently. We offer volume discounts and provide our most competitive rates to Health and Social Care organisations that expect to use our services regularly.
Can I pay extra for a fast track DBS Check?
There is no fast-track service for DBS checks. The Disclosure and Barring Service processes all applications using the same standard system.
Once submitted, no Umbrella Body can speed up the DBS. However, DBS.care ensures your application runs as smoothly as possible. Our user-friendly platform helps reduce mistakes and makes every step clear. This keeps the DBS process efficient for Health and Social Care organisations.
